The ending of the 'Deponia' trilogy didn't "land" well for some players. I consider 'DD' to be an addendum to the trilogy, while the developers, Daedalic Entertainment, saw it as a "parallelic". I was happy with the way the trilogy ended, and enjoyed it overall (see my review of Deponia: The Complete Journey). I, as well as the developers at Daedalic Entertainment, consider the first three 'Deponia' games (the trilogy) to be the true, complete story of Rufus. Okay, with that out of the way, let's get to what I think about 'Deponia Doomsday'. So, this review will contain what some people would consider to be spoilers to 'Deponia', 'Chaos on Deponia' and 'Goodbye Deponia'. Because you're taking time to read my review (thank you), I'm also assuming you have played the first three 'Deponia' games. Given that, despite what my Steam stats says, I've actually put in anywhere between 10 to 12 hours into it. Note: I played most of 'Deponia Doomsday' offline. Goodbye Deponia remains the best of the series, though. So, all in all, Doomsday is not the best game in the series, but it's still funny, still has a few parts when you have to think outside of the box (although nowhere near as far out there as in Deponia 2 and 3) and it's still a fun ride anyway. Not to spoil anything, and to put it simply: it sucks. There's one in particular that they clearly put a lot of effort into, but it was a lot of work for not much of a payout.įinally, The Ending. There are less of them than in any other game of the series (I didn't actually count them, but I was left with that feeling) and they're not as inspired nor difficult as many of those found in the first 3 Deponia games. I thought I should bring this up.Īnother thing: the minigames. I don't recall running into any bugs whatsoever in the first 3 games of the series, so. One that made me reload to a previous save because there was no way around it (so SAVE YOUR GAME before you go into the SAUNA) and the second had no impact, it was just a pickable item that was still there (after time reset and I got back into the same sequence of events) even though I already had it in my inventory. By the end you have no idea how things turned out the way they did.)Īlso, I ran into 2 bugs. Some 2/3s into the game I gave up on trying to follow it and just kept going, focusing on each individual sequence, because the whole picture is a mess (the story is about time travel, so it's THAT kind of mess. It makes me think, pumps my brain and, for me, that's the whole point of playing this stuff (if you're not in the mood of literally getting a headache playing SpaceChem, TIS-100, and others of the sort.) Too easy, in fact, although that's relative-personally, I like it when I get hopelessly stuck in an adventure game. it's slightly disappointing.ĭeponia Doomsday is probably as long as Goodbye Deponia-which means it's longer than the first 2 games of the series-but it's a lot easier. Reviews for Chaos on Deponia have been generally positive as it received an average of 78/100 on review aggregator website Metacritic. If you liked the first 3 Deponias, you're gonna like this one. #DEPONIA DOOMSDAY SAUNA SERIES#ĭeponia Doomsday, fourth installment in the series.Goodbye Deponia, third installment in the series.Deponia, first installment in the series.Critics praised the game for improvements of the pacing and writing over its predecessor, with others calling it too similar to the first game but still enjoyable. ^ Karkalemis, Manos (February 28, 2016).^ 'New screenshots released, confirmed E3 appearance– and original Deponia on sale on Steam today (66% OFF)!'
